Men’s day today…news has come through that John Barton fired a smooth 76. Although not winning men’s day due to his low handicap, this is the the score of the week, the Niseko Golf Academy owner has been playing a good game recently. take him up for some lessons when you get the chance.

Other results from the week

Most rounds of the week goes to Derek Kennewell - playing all the courses in the area at least once and the nighta at Rusutsu, Derek played a lot of golf and his game is coming around well.

Birdies of the week goes to Dale Riva, having a birdie or two in all 4 rounds he played this week, the ‘coach’ played a lot of golf and seems content with his game right now.

The last event of the week, the LJ Hooker Closest to the Pin Chipping Contest had a huge turnout.  All the big shooters came out for the 50,000YEN winner takes-all grandprize!!  Michiko Tsubota from J-Sekka turned up 5 minutes from the end of the contest and nailed the ball within 40cm to edge out Sha-cho Rob Holmes for the huuuuuge prize of 50,000YEN, congratulations to Michiko!!  Graeme Henry went for #2 pin and went home with a 2 night stay, courtesy of NMS Niseko Management Service.  #3 pin and two bottle of wine, sponsored by Niseko Golf Week, went to Chris ‘Chunky C’ Lane.

Congratulations to all and thanks for all of the support over golf week.  I think it showed how much fun golf can be, especially in a beautiful place like Niseko.

Friday golf day

3 groups went out with John Barton-organized Friday golf at Fukui course.  Conditions were perfect.  Winner this week (using handicaps and stableford system) was a red-hot Ian Stutchbury with 43 points and in 2nd, a consistent coach with 40 points, one more birdie to add to his collection for the week.  Kiichi had a sweet birdie 3 on the 18th to go home happy as well.  Both went home a little heavier in the pockets as a result.

Thanks John Barton for keeping this going all summer, the final championship day is next Friday.

Open Update

Rod Hoy and Dale Riva went out Toya way for 18 holes.

Beautiful course, only 5500yen with a cart on Thursdays, friendly staff who were asking us to come again and will do so.  The ‘coach’ added two more birdies, with a score of 81, Rod had a tough start but came back for 98.  Check out the pics, ocean, mountain, and lake views.  Only an hour or so away, stay in Niseko, get away to Toya for something different!
